Fiery Trials and The Lake of Fire
Good morning, Mike,
I came across these verses and I wonder if I am seeing this correctly.
Jer 7:30-33 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it. And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart. Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place. And the carcasses of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
What I’ve gathered from this is:
1. children of Judah – the church today.
2. high places of Tophet/valley of Hinnom – the doctrine of Hell.
3. set their abominations in my house, called by my name – their evil teaching prevalent in the church associated with the concept of hell.
4. burn their sons and daughters – bringing them up in this horrible doctrine
5. fowls of the heaven – teachings that are based on/ come out of the concept of hellI surely can see in these verses, Mike, the church today and the displeasure of our Lord concerning this damnable doctrine. Am I seeing as He would have me see it?

Hi C____,
Yes, you certainly are “seeing as He would have you to see.”
There is one aspect you are overlooking, though. You haven’t noticed the judgment for “burning their sons in Tophet.” Here is the justice which God metes out to those whose “high places” [“every thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God” – 2Co 10:5] take precedence in their hearts over the Words of God:
Jer 7:32 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.
Jer 7:33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
“Tophet, which is the valley of the son of Hinnom,” is Gehenna which is “prepared for the devil and his angels.” All of these names are just types and shadows of the spiritual lake of fire which will receive “the carcasses of this people [which] shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.”
That is the justice of God which is to be dealt out to those who blaspheme the name of a loving father with this false doctrine. And we have all been guilty of this attitude towards our heavenly Father.
What does this mean? It means that “You knew that I was a hard man reaping where I had not sown and gathering where I had not strawed” is the way God will show himself to these people in that “great white throne judgment” called the lake of fire. These people will be resurrected as spirit beings and will stand before God with these very doctrines still in their carnal minds. Christ said that Gehenna was prepared for the devil and his angels and the entire “historical orthodox Christian church” is the devil’s ‘angels’ or messengers.
Now there will be every level of sin imaginable in that lake of fire. It will range from pregnant mothers and aborted babies to Hitler, Stalin and Mao Tse Tung. But there will be one rule which will be applied to them all. Here is the law which governs all of God’s judgments on the innumerable multitude of mankind cast into the lake of fire.
Luk 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Luk 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
So where is the judgment for those who forsake all for their Lord while yet in these vessels of clay? Here is their judgment. It is even now being administered:
Luk 12:49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
Since “flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom” (1Co 15:50) and since flesh and blood is a “marred vessel in the potter’s hand” and since Christ was “made to be sin,” (2Co 5:21) by being “made of a woman, made under the law” (Gal 4:4), and since being “under the law” is called “under sin” (Gal 3:22-23), Christ, too, had to forfeit His own flesh and blood which “cannot inherit the kingdom of God”. There was no other way. His flesh asked “if there be another way?…” but He knew that there was no other way:
Luk 12:50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
Here is what God does to those in that ‘Gehenna, lake of fire,’ who cling so tenaciously to their idols of their hearts:
Psa 18:26 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.
The lord of the servants had indeed “sown” his talents with His servants. But the servant with one talent, typifies the “historical orthodox Christian church” which was in us all and is still in those who believe their Lord is the kind of being who would burn someone in hell for all eternity in retaliation for mistakes made in a life which is “as a vapor which appears for a moment and then vanishes away.” Here is how “historical orthodox Christianity” to this day views Christ:
Mat 25:24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
Mat 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
Does the Lord defend Himself against these false accusations? No, He does not. He actually agrees with this deceived “wicked servant” and says:
Mat 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Joseph’s tormenting his brothers, followed by Joseph’s brothers tormenting of themselves because of their own carnal mind thinking that Joseph was out to kill them all and take his revenge, is the Old Testament type for all that will be done to those who cling to the idols of their hearts in the ‘lake of fire.’
I hope this is of some help to you in understanding what…
Jer 19:6 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.
Jer 7:33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
… means. The ‘carcasses of this people’ represents the carnal minds and thoughts of “this people.” We know this because we know that:
1Co 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
I hope this all helps you to see the ‘Is’ application of all of these verses of scripture. We are to live as if we are already “raised with Him.”
Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
We are to experience this fiery burning out of all of our hearts’ idols now. What the ‘lake of fire’ will accomplish in all mankind of all time is exactly what our own “fiery trials” (1Pe 4:12) are even now producing in us. And it is this ‘Is‘ part of all of these scriptures, which we must come to see as being lived within each of us now while we are yet in these “vessels of clay.” Tophet is full of high places within us:
Jer 7:31 And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
It is these high places of Tophet that we must destroy even now. These evil doctrines must be burned out of us now before we, like Joseph with his brothers, will be fit to burn them out of our brothers in the lake of fire later.
2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Your brother in Christ,
Mike
