(Pro 13:1)
Pro 13:1 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Christ is our hope of glory within (Col 1:27) and He ever lives now to make intercession for His children and is able to save us to the uttermost (Heb 7:25). The good desire that comes in our hearts and minds is there because of the life of Christ within us (Pro 11:23, Gal 2:20) who is the “tree of life”, the vine by which we can see our hopes realized as He works in us both to will and to do of our Father’s good pleasure, which is to give us the kingdom (Php 2:12-13, Luk 12:32). If we are going to be “A wise son [that] heareth his father’s instruction”, we have got to know that we are the temple of God, a many-membered body that is receiving the manifest knowledge, or instruction, given to him or her via the church (1Co 3:16, Eph 3:10).
Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure.Luk 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
In order for that hope within to be realized we must be granted to not neglect so great a salvational process that is aptly described in (1Ti 4:13-16).
1Ti 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
1Ti 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
1Ti 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
Becoming a wise son who hears and does what his Father instructs him to do is what we are being admonished to do throughout God’s word and is something that can only be learned by God extending His grace, his favor, toward us that teaches us (Heb 12:6-7) to deny “ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ”(Jas 1:22, Rev 1:3, Tit 2:11-13).
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Rev 1:3 Blessed [is] he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [is] at hand.
Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12 Teaching us (1Pe 4:1) that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Pro 13:1 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
To scorn is to be boastful in our flesh (Rom 3:27-28), as if we had something to do with anything, when in fact God is working all things (Isa 45:7) according to the counsel of His own will (Eph 1:11). We see in Christ’s own words His complete acknowledgement of that reality of God’s sovereignty in these verses (Joh 5:30-31, Joh 15:5, Rev 11:3).
Rom 3:27 Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.“Scorner” H3887 lûts

Regarding boasting:
Rom 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith (of which faith Christ had without measure Joh 3:34).
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Joh 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
Joh 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing (Rev 11:3).
Rev 11:3 And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Christ in us is that “wise son”(Pro 13:1), who hears the instruction of His Father and is not a scorner (scorners scoff 2Pe 3:3-4), even when He suffered. He learned obedience by things which he suffered telling us it is a process that we must go through to be armed with the mind of Christ (Heb 5:8) and be as He is in this world going unto death even the death of a cross (Php 2:8, Gal 2:20, Php 1:29).
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.Php 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
That process of suffering so we are no longer boastful in our flesh, or self-righteous, can be more readily understood by looking at some entries where the word ‘cross’ [Gal 6:14-16] is used in God’s word, keeping in mind that the ‘altar is the cross’ and that it is Christ who gives us the power to remain bound to that altar (Psa 118:27).
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Gal 6:16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace [be] on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.Joh 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the [wife] of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. [Mary a type of the church standing by the cross of Christ which is how we stand spiritually by being baptized into his death that is symbolized by the cross. Having done all we stand and our pierced in our hearts as Mary was when we come to fully acknowledge our guilt of the death of Christ (Luk 2:35, 2Sa 12:10)]
1Co 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.[Christ sent Paul to point the body of Christ to the need to be baptized into Christ’s death (Rom 6:1-3)]
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [Our power to overcome is progressively being revealed in our lives by being dead to sin and alive in Christ as we die daily at the altar which is the cross]
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory (Rom 3:27-28), save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.[It is at the cross where we receive the great power we need to live by the faith of Christ and give all glory to God for that gift of faith by which we will be saved (1Jn 5:4, Gal 2:20)]
Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:[God’s elect are part of this reconciliation process that is connected to the cross, and He has given us a ministry of reconciliation (2Co 5:18) that can only be effective if we are slain at that altar with Christ, presented to our Father as a living sacrifice, alive in Christ and dead to sin (Rom 6:11)]
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [Christ became obedient showing us there is a process that we all must go through in the flesh that leads to our being a mature living sacrifice who are sheep for the slaughter, or a “lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth”, not fearful of what man can do to our flesh, because God has brought us to that place of being persuaded through the faith of Christ (Act 8:32, Rom 8:35-39)]. There is reference to a lamb and a sheep in (Act 8:32) to remind us that our entire life we are to be a living sacrifice, from nēpios (lamb) to uihos (sheep).
Php 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, [that they are] the enemies of the cross of Christ:[we don’t have to fear an enemy of the cross if we are bound to the altar or cross (1Co 11:19), but we must not be naive to think that there are not those in our life who Satan will use to try to sift us like wheat (Luk 21:31-32), taking our crown from us, and so we must fight a good fight of faith and like Paul continue to bring this most important message of how we are to beware of the enemies of the cross in our lives and walk therefore circumspectly examining ourselves, and keeping under ourselves, because the days are evil and Satan knows that he has but a short time left (Rev 12:12, Mat 10:16)]
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, [I say], whether [they be] things in earth, or things in heaven. [God is going to use Christ and His Christ to reconcile all things unto himself by “the blood of the cross”(2Sa 14:14), and that is only way we are going to have peace in this dying and spiritually dead world were living in, by being on the cross where we can receive peace that passes all understanding (Gal 2:20, Php 4:7)]
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [We are nailed to that cross with Christ if we are God’s elect (Gal 2:20, Psa 118:27)]
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.[We are filling up what is behind of Christ’s suffering on the cross despising the shame, and set down at the right hand of the throne of God in earnest right now if we are His children (Eph 2:6, 1Jn 3:1)]
It is on the cross, or the altar, where we present our lives a living sacrifice unto God, where we will learn what God’s will is for us, which ‘will’ we are promised can be fulfilled through Christ who enables us to endure the suffering that we must go through in order to become mature sons of God is this life (1Co 10:13, Php 4:13, 1Co 13:7).
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
1Co 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Christ never once did not hear and yield to what God ask of him, and did not scorn, or despise the process of judgement that He had to go through in His flesh. That is the simple truth which is impossible to follow without the life of Christ within us, who tells us to fear God, and work righteousness, and give all glory unto Him who is able to deliver us from the uttermost (1Co 10:13, Heb 7:25). If we are going to remain filthy in this life (Rev 22:11) it will be because we have not been granted to continue to be “A wise son [who] heareth his father’s instruction” and are “a scornerH3887” who “heareth not rebuke” [“Hear therefore, O Israel,[Gal 6:14-16] and observe to do [it]; that it may be well with thee”]
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].
Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them (1Co 10:13).
Deu 6:3 Hear therefore, O Israel [Gal 6:14-16], and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
