Can A Christian Be A Freemason?
Mike,
I recently joined the Masons without any prior knowledge of this organization. In my recent lodge visit, they prayed to a generic god called “G.A.O.T.U.” which stands for “Great Architect of The Universe.” Masonry claims that it is not a religion, and therefore it doesn’t perform political or religious affairs within the lodge. Contrary to their statements, they make prayers within the lodge to G.A.O.T.U. a generic god that is acceptable to all faiths. I find this unacceptable to my faith in Christ and a violation of “you shall have no other gods before me” commandment. I am currently writing a letter denouncing my membership based on this and some other information. If you have any further information you would like to add please let me know.
Sincerely,
D____
Hi D____,
Thank you for your question concerning joining the Masons.
If there is any organization which a Christian should avoid, the Masons are one such organization. The Masons take great pride in the secrets of the lodge. Here is what scripture says about all such secrets of men:
Mar 4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
Mar 4:22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
Mar 4:23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
Well, God has not granted “ears to hear” the things of the spirit to anyone who is a Mason.
Can you imagine Christ and His apostles sharing secret hand signals? How absolutely absurd! The one secret of the scriptures which to this day is not known to those to whom free masonry appeals is this secret:
Col 1:26 the secret which has been concealed from the eons and from the generations, yet now was made manifest to His saints,
Col 1:27 to whom God wills to make known what are the glorious riches of this secret among the nations, which is: Christ among [Greek: en, in] you, the expectation of glory (CLV)
Does it not strike you as strange why a group of grown men, would want to keep anything a secret if it is such a wonderful thing? Christ wants all men to come to know Him, and He is revealing Himself to all in whom He has place a desire to know Him and His Father.
I have no doubt that the paganism of what you describe in this e-mail can be enlarged upon, but this is what Christ and His Father tell us:
Exo 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,
Exo 20:2 I [am] the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Christ Himself says this:
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Those are anything but “generic” statements about a “generic God”.
So I will let the apostle Paul close this e-mail for me in admonition to you and to us all that He is the only way to His Father:
1Ti 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1Ti 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
“Come out of her” (Rev 18:4).
Your brother in Christ,
Mike
