Greetings!  Do you think there is any significance in the fact that Eve, who was Adam’s bride, came out of his side while he slept?  Just as while Jesus slept, blood and water came out of his side after he was pierced?  Do you think that this symbolizes that Christ’s true bride must ”come out” of His body also?  That is, ”coming out” of the religious church world.

Of course I believe that we are to come out of Babylon…”come out of her my people.” But God taking a rib of Adam and making woman symbolizes Eve’s origins. It typifies her oneness with and submission to Adam. This, according to 1Co 11 and Rom 1, tells us that Christ is “of God” and is therefore submissive to His Father. What Paul, speaking the mind of God, draws from Eve coming out of Adam is this:

1Co 11:8  For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
1Co 11:9  Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

That comes close to being the exact opposite of thinking of Eve’s creation as coming out of and separating and not touching the unclean thing:

2Co 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [ thing]; and I will receive you,

It adds not one word to what Paul is saying to say that ‘the man is not out of the woman, but the woman is out of the man.’ What are we told to draw from this fact spiritually? Should we draw from this that Eve is separated from Adam, that she now doesn’t need to be subject to Adam because she is now “out of Adam?” If that is what we draw from the story of Eve’s creation as an analogy, then we have just taken what the holy spirit uses as a type of two being made one and in agreement, and we have perverted this type of Christ and His father being made one into one being made exact spiritual opposites. We have taken being made one and turned it into being made two and Christ and His Father being separated and opposed to each other. Eve was made of Adam’s rib to show us that they are “one flesh.”  The two were to come together and make one, and this was to be accomplished by Eve being submissive to and subject to Adam, just as we, as Christ’s bride, are to be subject unto Him:

Eph 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Eph 5:21  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Eph 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

I have written a 70 page paper on this subject entitled The Head of Christ Is God. It is loaded with scriptures dealing with this very subject.
You cannot take verse 21, addressed to the entire church as the bride of Christ, and use it to contradict verse 22, addressed to wives, typifying the bride of Christ. Verse 22 agrees with and demonstrates how verse 21 is to be understood. The church, as Christ’s united body, works together to please him, just as He seeks to please His Father.
When we use the story of Eve’s creation to typify our coming out of Babylon, we have turned what was intended to show us how Adam and Eve are one as a married couple and we have perverted it into a divorce, a separation and a making of two separates and equals.
This is what those who use…

Gal 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

… to nullify all of the verses in God’s word concerning the role of women in the body of Christ. To these people Paul’s statement…:

1Co 11:3  But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

… amounts to nothing less than blasphemy. To these people; and that means generally the orthodox Christian church, to say that “the head of the woman is the man,” instead of demonstrating Christ’s submission to His Father, this verse demonstrates the husband as an obstacle between women and Christ. And the result of this foul spirit is what we have today where supposedly Christian women despise what the Word of God says about the role of women in God’s church:
So what is the Truth in this matter? What are the clear commandments of our Lord as regards the role of women in His church? What would a truly spiritual, true prophet of Christ have to say on this subject?

1Co 14:31  For ye [ men] may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
1Co 14:32  And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
1Co 14:33  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1Co 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [ they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1Co 14:35  And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
1Co 14:36  What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
1Co 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord .

I am fully aware that Paul said that women ought not to prophecy with their heads uncovered or shaven. Read the paper The Head of Christ is God to understand how Paul can say all the things he and Peter say about women being subject to their husbands and being quiet and not being teachers in the church, and still say that women can “prophecy with their heads covered.”

1Co 11:4  Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
1Co 11:5  But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [ her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

How, pray tell, do these words in any way agree with:

Gal 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

They are in complete agreement when you understand that God made women with a nature that is “against their husbands” (Gen 3:16 – ‘unto’ in this verse should be ‘against’). But He made her that way for the same reason that He made the first Adam to be ‘against’ the mind of his creator. “Sin lies at the door and against you shall its desire be.” Just as we are to overcome our natural inclination to oppose our head, our wives must all resist their natural inclination to be against their husbands who are given to them to be their head. The fact that most men are not fit to be the head does not change this Truth.
I hope this gives you a better perspective of what is the significance of taking a rib from Adam means. A much more Biblical type of coming out of Babylon to be Christ’s bride would be Cain hating Abel, Abraham coming out of Ur of the Chaldeas, Abraham separating from Lot, Isaac being separated from Ishmael, Jacob from Esau, Joseph being separated from his brothers, David from King Saul, etc. There are many Old Testament types of God’s divorce from physical Israel or our coming out of Babylon. But the creation of Eve from Adam’s rib is the exact opposite of coming out of Babylon. Instead of typifying divorce and separation, it typifies how two become one.

Gen 2:21  And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
Gen 2:22  And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
Gen 2:23  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Yes, it does say “flesh.” But even flesh is a figure of Christ in this verse:

Rom 5:14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
