Meaning of Miram Being Shut Out of the Camp
Hi Mike,
Was reading one of your articles this morning before heading out to work and I had a thought I would like to bounce off of you (see cut and paste of scripture below… bold font your emphasis). Miriam being shut out of the camp for 7 days (i. e. 7 meaning completely shut out of the camp)… only afterward let her be received again… I see this as one of two types and shadows (maybe both):
1) This scripture a type and shadow of what happened to Miriam as representing all thepeople who come in on the 2nd resurrection rather than the 1st resurrection.
2) This scripture is also as part of God’s elect living by every word…. who ‘in times past…” “…. God’s wrath against all ungodliness” lived this out and was shut out of the camp completely and only on God’s appointed time received mercy to be brought in again in this aion rather than in the 2nd resurrection.
Any thoughts?Num 12:1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
Num 12:2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
Num 12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
Num 12:4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
Num 12:5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
Num 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
Num 12:7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
Num 12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
Num 12:9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
Num 12:10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
Num 12:11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
Num 12:12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.
Num 12:13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
Num 12:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
Num 12:15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.M_____
Good morning M____,
This is a wonderful bit of revelation the Lord has given you to share with me and with others.
Thank you for taking the time to do so.
It is not a mere historical fact that it was Eve who gave the forbidden fruit to Adam, rather for those with eyes that see and ears that hear, it is a commentary on the state of the Laodicean state of the church throughout history.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing;” corresponds to Miriam and Aaron’s “Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? hath He not spoken also by us?” This is the mindset of the church today.
The Lord had indeed spoken by Miriam and Aaron, and they should have been grateful to have been of that service, but as you are given to see, Miriam typifies those in the church who hate the fact that God has an elect with whom He has a special relationship. Miriam and Aaron typify the rejected brother and sister of Moses, just as Esau was Jacob’s rejected twin brother and just as Joseph had ten rejected brothers, all of them being Abraham’s seed. They are all the type of Christians who are indeed called, but who are not all “children of promise”, the chosen seed.
Rom 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Rom 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
The rejection of the nation of Israel, in the days of Christ and the apostles, foreshadowed the rejection of the orthodox church as a whole today which “cannot receive the things of the spirit”.
Joh 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the [ spiritual] Jews. (Rom 2:28-29)
Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
“In spirit” simply is not “in the letter” which any natural man can understand. Worshiping God “in spirit” is knowing God and His words as spirit, and this is only for those who have “ears to hear”.
Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Rev 2:29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
“The words… are spirit”. Joseph’s brothers demonstrate the fury that is in those who see themselves as not being as loved by their Father as others appear to be. At any rate, any who dare to claim to be God’s elect must expect their fellow ‘seed of Abraham’ rejected brothers to be completely incapable of “speaking peaceably” to them.
Gen 37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
The natural man will see this too, only as a history lesson. The man who has eyes that see and ears that hear, will see this as each of us “living by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”.
That is what you have done with this story of Miriam and Aaron withstanding Moses.
We have all wondered why Miriam was stricken with leprosy, instead of Aaron. The answer is that Miriam typifies the church, which is always the instrument which leads us into error.
It is very instructive to note the meaning of the name ‘Miriam’. Here is what Strong’s says concerning the meaning of Miriam’s name:
H4813
mirya m
meer- yawm’
From H4805; rebelliously; Mirjam, the name of two Israelitesses: – Miriam.
H4805
mer y
mer- ee’
From H4784; bitterness, that is, (figuratively) rebellion; concretely bitter, or rebellious: – bitter, (most) rebel (- ion, – lious).
You have seen this jealousy, bitterness and rebellion that Miriam and Aaron had toward Moses as the spiritual type of the treatment which God’s elect must expect from their brothers and sisters who are in the church, who are in Christ, and who are called but are not chosen.
Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
It was apparent that Moses’s ‘father loved him more than’ he loved Miriam and Aaron, who saw themselves just as Korah, only a few days later, saw the whole congregation of Israel:
Num 16:3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?
Was the Lord really “among them”? Of course He was, just as He had indeed spoken by Miriam and Aaron, but He was not ‘among them’ and dealing with them in the special way in which He dealt with Moses or with Joseph. Neither did God love Ishmael in the same way He loved Isaac.
Had Moses “lifted up himself above the congregation”? Absolutely not. Moses’s position was forced upon him just as Joseph’s was forced on him also, and they both wanted their brothers to be saved. Nevertheless, God makes it clear that He has a special elect which He is saving first, and through whom He will later save all men.
Gen 17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
Gen 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
Gen 17:20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
Gen 17:21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
So again Isaac is the type of God’s elect today.
Rom 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
“The children of the flesh” are the children of the ‘ten- second sinner’s prayer’ who are Christians in name only. They consider themselves as Abraham’s seed, but they know nothing of the necessity of being judged, nor of the chastening grace of God and “that it is through much tribulation that we must enter into the kingdom of God”. They have Christ’s name, but ‘His Word has no place in them’.
Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12 Teaching [ Greek, chastening] us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Joh 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
Thank you for showing me “the deep things of the spirit” concerning this story of Miriam’s and Aaron’s jealous spirit toward their elect brother, Moses.
Your brother in Christ,
Mike
