Rev 19:1-5 The Heavens Rejoice at the Destruction of the Harlot

Rev 19:1  And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
Rev 19:2  For true and righteous [are] his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
Rev 19:3  And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.
Rev 19:4  And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
Rev 19:5  And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

Introduction

We are first given the symbolism of Babylon in Revelation 14, where she is first presented to us in connection with our judgment. It is in that judgment that Babylon within, and our beast within, face the wrath of God which is poured out upon that beast which we all are, as we submit to the doctrines of this harlot. It is obedience to her doctrines which makes us her children. The ‘great harlot’ signifies who we have been and to whom we bowed ourselves as her slave.

Rev 14:6  And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Rev 14:7  Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Rev 14:8  And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Rev 14:9  And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11  And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Those who have served this self-righteous, greedy harlot know best who she is. We must be in Babylon before we can come out of her and hear the voice of the “angel… in the midst of heaven, proclaiming the true “everlasting gospel.” This process is made perfectly clear in the very next verse.

Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

What is the patience of the saints? Let’s not guess about this. This is far too important a matter for mere speculation. Here is what constitutes “the patience of the saints.”

Rev 13:1  And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
Rev 13:2  And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
Rev 13:3  And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
Rev 13:4  And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Rev 13:5  And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
Rev 13:6  And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
Rev 13:7  And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Rev 13:8  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Rev 13:9  If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Rev 13:10  He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Let’s put together what constitutes “the patience of the saints.” Revelation 14 told us that being tormented day and night for worshipping the beast “is the patience of the saints.”

Rev 14:9  And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11  And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Wow! Who would have ever thought that having the patience of the saints and keeping the commandments of God would include worshipping the beast and his image and receiving his mark in ones forehead and hand. Earlier in Revelation 13 we were told the very same thing:

Rev 13:7  And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Rev 13:8  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Rev 13:9  If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Rev 13:10  He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

“It was given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.” There it is. The guess work is eliminated, and we now know that this beast overcomes all of the saints. “All who dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb.”

“Whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb?” What does that mean? Here again is the answer to that question, demonstrating once again the Truth that there is one event to all men (Ecc 2:2), that “Man… lives by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Mat 4:4), and that “all things, things present and things to come, are ours” (1Co 2:21-22). Here are those who names are blotted out of God’s book and at one time  “are not written in the book of life of the Lamb” (Rev 13:8):

Exo 32:33  And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Has anyone, other than our Lord, not sinned? We are all the beast to whom it is given to overcome the saints. It is the saints themselves who have all, in their own appointed time,”worshipped the dragon… worshipped the beast… made war with the saints, [and have] sinned against God, and “whose names [at one time were] not written in the book of the life of the Lamb.”

Rev 13:9  If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Rev 13:10  He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Why must this be? Here is the reason we all must live by these words:

Rev 1:3  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Few are given to see, hear and keep the things written in this book and to understand that “the time is at hand” to do so for all to whom it is given in every generation, to see, hear and keep these things. ‘These things’ include being the beast which comes up out of the sea, being given his power, his throne and his great authority. All of that is “written therein.” The power to overcome the saints and cause all that dwell on the earth to worship this beast is “written therein.” Knowing that it is granted to very few to understand how this all is predestined to be read, heard and kept by all, the holy spirit again insists “If any man has an ear, let him hear”, right after telling us that all who dwell upon the earth will worship this beast we all are.

Rev 13:8  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Rev 13:9  If any man have an ear, let him hear.

It is the beast we all are who overcomes the saints, leads into captivity and kills with the sword. It is that same beast which must repent and must himself become those very saints he was once killing. It is that same beast who must, at his own appointed time, “bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”, and it is that same beast we all are, who must be slain by the sword of the word of God.

Eph 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

2Co 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two- edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. (ASV)

The Word of God is the ‘sword’ which will ‘kill’ all who “kill with the sword.”

We cannot be a saint until we have first been a beast who worshipped the dragon. We cannot be a saint until we have first persecuted, lead into captivity and overcome the saints of God. We cannot be one of the true saints of God until we have been a slave in Babylon. We cannot have the patience of the saints, keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus, until we have worshipped the beast and been tormented day and night in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb:

Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Becoming a saint is what this arduous process produces. Having “the patience of the saints, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” is what this entire story of the judgment of a beast coming up out of the sea, blaspheming God, overcoming the saints and worshipping the dragon is all about. The process judging our beast and bringing him to repentance includes the time of our lives when we are dominated by a great harlot who is unfaithful to the doctrines of her own husband. Our time being judged for being this “scarlet colored beast”, dominated by “Babylon the Great” necessitates that we “drink of the wine of the wrath of God? It is this whole process which is called “the patience and faith of the saints’ in Revelation 13:8, and it is repeated as such in the very next chapter of Revelation 14.

Those who have been there know best what this all is:

Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

 So “the patience and faith of the saints” acknowledges that “all things come alike to all; [and] there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked”:

Ecc 9:2  All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

‘The patience and faith of the saints’ acknowledges that “Man shall… live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Mat 4:4), that “all things present and all things to come are ours” (1Co 3:21-22), and that we must all “keep the things which are written therein, for the time is at hand” (Rev 1:3). If we deny this to be so then that part of the revelation of Jesus Christ within us, which has “proceeded out of the mouth of God”, will be taken away from us in “this present time”, to be “read, heard and kept” at a later judgment known in scripture as “the lake of fire”.

Rom 8:18  For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Rom 8:20  For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
Rom 8:21  Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Rom 8:22  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Rom 8:23  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Rev 22:18  For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

“The water of life” is “every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” We do not want to “take away from the words of the book of this prophecy.” It is our intention to “keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus”, by “keeping the things written therein”, including the things written in chapters 16, 17, and 18 of this revelation of Jesus Christ. It is “the things written” in the preceding chapters which are the subject of the first verse of today’s study.

Rev 19:1  And after these things [The revelation of judgment of the harlot who dominates our beast in chapters 17-18] I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

“These things” refers to our own judgment while we are in Babylon, worshipping the beast and the dragon, and living the life of a harlot.

The “great voice of much people in Heaven” is where the people and temple of God is located.

Rev 11:19  And the temple of God [His own people (1Co 3:16-17)] was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Rev 14:17  And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

Rev 15:5  And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

If we place “line upon line” (Isa 28:10-13) and interpret scripture with scripture (2Pe 1:20), then we can see that we are that temple, and ‘heaven’, where all these wars and judgments are taking place, is all within us.

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Co 3:17  If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Eph 2:6  God raised us from death to life with Christ Jesus, and he has given us a place beside Christ in heaven. (CEV)

So we are at this very moment “beside Christ in heaven” within. Before we can be the heavens within, we must first be of “the earth” within.

Rev 19:2  For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
Rev 19:3  And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

This great whore has corrupted the earth with her spiritual fornication. We are “the earth” who has committed fornication with this “great whore”, and God has judged her and is burning out of us all of her fornications. The doctrines of Babylon are mere “wood, hay and stubble” with which we have attempted to build a temple upon the foundation of Christ, and the true Christ is having none of it.

1Co 3:12  Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Co 3:13  Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
1Co 3:14  If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:14 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

“If any man’s work shall be burned” is “her smoke rising up for ever and ever.” The Greek is “for the eons of the eons”, meaning every life of every man as the word of God comes into each life, all during “times eonian.”

2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, [Greek: before times eonian]

“But He himself shall be saved” is the true gospel which really is the good news that nothing concerning this revelation of Jesus Christ depends upon us or our works. Rather it is all being done in and through us “according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ before times eonian.” This Truth is repeated for us in Titus.

Tit 1:2  In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; [Greek: before times eonian].

What is missing in the Babylonian doctrine of eternal torment is the sovereign work of our Lord to bring all in Adam to live in Christ, just as all in Adam have been given death in Adam.

1Co 15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
1Co 15:23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
1Co 15:24  Then [cometh] the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
1Co 15:25  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
1Co 15:26  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

If 2+2= 4 then “all… in Adam”= “all… in Christ.”

Rom 5:14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who [Adam] is the figure of him [Christ] that was to come.

This great harlot is being judged. If we are to understand how her judgment is “the avenging of the blood of God’s servants at her hand”, then we must first understand what the scriptures mean by the word “judgment.”

Rev 19:2  For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

Here is what judgment accomplishes for God’s purposes:

1Co 11:31  For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Co 11:32  But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

So judgment is chastening, whether it is the judgment we are now enduring or the judgment of the lake of fire, Both are God’s chastening grace for the purpose of learning godly righteousness.

Isa 26:9  With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments [are] in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

Tit 2:11  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12  Teaching [G3811: ‘paidueo’ chastening] us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Rev 19:4  And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
Rev 19:5  And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

We have already seen clearly who these “four and twenty elders and the four beasts” are. They are who they tell us they are.

Rev 5:8  And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
Rev 5:9  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Rev 5:10  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Those who have been redeemed in “this present time” (Rom 8:18) are those who reign as kings and priests with Christ for a thousand years, and they are also referred to as “four and twenty elders” and “four beasts” who “have been made kings and priests unto God, and will reign on earth.” Before being granted the glory of doing this “ruling and reigning on earth” outwardly, we must first learn to exercise that power inwardly, by ruling our own ‘earth’ and hearing and doing the Words of our Lord.

Jer 22:29  O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

Luk 6:46  And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Who exactly has God “made kings and priests”? We are told here in Revelation 5 that it is those whom He has redeemed out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation”. Here it is again.

Rev 20:4  And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received [his] mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5  But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

So the vision is one, and the four and twenty elders and the four beasts are both symbols of the same thing. They both signify the Christ of Christ.

The last detail with which we need to concern ourselves is what is this “voice [which] comes out of the throne”?

Rev 19:5  And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

What is this voice out of the throne? Here is what the scriptures reveal, and we see once again that “the dream is one” and that this voice is just one more symbol for the elect of God, in whom Christ lives and through whom He speaks. Here is who is “in the throne” out of which this voice  comes:

Rev 4:6  And before the throne [there was] a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst [Greek: mesos, middle] of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

How they are both “round about” and also “in the middle of” the throne” is as simple as Christ being in us and us in Him, while at the very same time being in our brothers and sisters on the other side of the globe (Joh 14:20). It is not that hard to understand “in the spirit”.

In our next study, Lord willing, we will see again, that the angels which show us these things are “our fellowservants, and our brothers that have this testimony of Jesus”.

Rev 19:6  And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Rev 19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Rev 19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed [are] they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Rev 19:10  And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See [thou do it] not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
