Scripture As Both Positive And Negative
Dear Mike,
God bless you and thank you for sharing your many insights into God’s word.I am writing to bring to your attention something that appears to me to be not right in one of your audio teachings – namely that the “sun” of the “sun, moon and stars” refers to the Light of Jesus Christ.
I recognize that your knowlege of God’s word far surpasses mine and that I may well be in error. So I will not bring this up on the (or any) forum so as to be divisive to God’s people.
I will simply list scriptures containing the symbol of “sun, moon, and stars” preceded by a brief comment or two.
God instructs His people not to worship the sun, yet we are to worship Christ.
Deu 4:19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, [ even] all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
The sun is an “other god” but Jesus Christ is our God.
Deu 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
Worshipping the sun is worshipping Baal.
2Ki 23:5 And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned Incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets and to all the host of heaven.
Worshipping the sun is to deny the God of heaven.
Job 31:26 Have I looked at the sun shining in the skies, or the moon walking down its silver pathway, 27 and been secretly enticed in my heart to worship them? 28 If so, I should be punished by the judges, for it would mean I had denied the God of heaven.
The sun and moon will be ashamed and confounded when God judges them — verse 21 calls them the host of high ones, kings of the earth. Are these not church leaders?
Isa 24:23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
When Jesus Christ lights the city then the sun and moon will not light it.
Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [ is] the light thereof.
When Jesus Christ is our light, our former sun and moon will not be our light.
Isa 60:19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
Jesus Christ will then be both our “sun & moon” and He will not “go down” as our former sun & moon did.
Isa 60:20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
The woman (harlot church) is clothed with (wears the doctrine of) the sun & moon and stars. So they all share the same doctrine.
Rev 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; = a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars
The stars shepard the flock. The sun & moon give birth to the twelve stars. One of the stars is and chosen and the other eleven stars and sun and moon bow down to him. So they are of the synogogue of Satan. How can the Light of Christ bow down to the elect?
Gen 37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10 And he told [ it] to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What [ is] this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth.
Jesus Christ is the “sun of righteousness” because He replaces our former “sun, moon & stars” as our source of light (see above Rev 21:23, Isa 60:19).
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Don’t get me wrong Mike. I know that the light of Christ is indeed shut off in judgment. Christ was forsaken by God on the cross. God said “for a small moment I have forsaken thee but in great mercy I will gather thee.” etc. But it appears to me that the “sun, moon, stars” all represent false lights (the harlot’s lovers) that are brought to naught in judgment, and then replaced by the true light of Christ.
Thanks again Mike,

Hello B____,
You seem to have a good grasp on the negative application of the “sun, moon, and stars” in the scriptures you’ve provided. Many if not all of the symbols in scripture have a negative and a positive application. As we look at a few of these let’s also remember that all is of God, even the negative.
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God…
Rom 11:36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
Consider the lion. We know that Jesus Christ is the Lion.
Rev 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
As He is so are we in this world, so God’s elect are also likened to a lion.
Rev 4:7 The first living creature was like a lion the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.
Pro 28:1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
Now let’s look at the negative application of lion. Satan is a lion.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
2Ti 4:17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
1Ki 13:26 Now when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard it, he said, “It is the man of God who was disobedient to the word of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke to him.”
Let’s look at another quick example – the serpent. Now we know that the serpent has a negative application but check these positive applications.
Num 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
Num 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
Joh 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
Mat 10:16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Even Satan himself has a positive application in the scripture below.
Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.
Notice I said application. Satan himself is not positive. But the purpose he serves in God’s plan is “very good.”
Gen 1:31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
You’ve given some great scriptures with negative applications of the “sun, moon, and stars”; here are some positive applications.
Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
Jdg 5:20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
Deu 33:13 And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,
Deu 33:14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,
Psa 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
Psa 89:36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
Psa 89:37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
Jer 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mar 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
I hope you can see that the “sun, moon, and stars” can have both positive and negative applications.
