Son Wants to Convert to Islam
Hi Mike,
I would appreciate some advice from you regarding a problem a friend of mine is experiencing with his son.
He has also become disillusioned with traditional Christianity, and I have been discussing with him the “the is, was and will be” Christ I have come to know. His son turned 21 last year and has always been fairly active in the church, but he came home with a shocker last week when he told his dad that he wanted to convert to Islam. I have been talking to the son and pointed out a few issues in Christianity as well as Islam that he was quite unaware of.
The problem, however, is that my friend is extremely upset and is threatening to deal with the matter rather harshly, especially on issues such as bringing the Koran into his house, getting up at 5 o’clock in the morning to pray, etc, etc.
Can you please give some advice on how he should act towards his son?

Hi S____,
Thank you for your question concerning your friend’s 21 year old son.
Both your friend and his son, being 21, should be able to understand that while your friend is in no position to tell his 21 year old son what he can and cannot believe, he certainly is in a position to tell his son that he cannot practice his religion under his roof.
If my son, living under my roof, were to convert to Islam and wanted to pray five times a day facing Mecca, keep the Friday sabbath, eat only halal foods, and live under sharia law, I could not allow that in my house any sooner than I could allow heretical Christian doctrines and practices in my home.
2Jn 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
2Jn 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
2Jn 1:11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
Islam does not teach its adherents to love its enemies, and while Christ does teach us to love our enemies, it doesn’t teach us to let them move in and live in our homes, either spiritually or physically. To the contrary the scriptures tell us to put heretics out of our fellowship, and keep no company with them.
2Th 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
Tit 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Tit 3:10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
Tit 3:11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
Islam certainly is not the doctrine of Christ.
I hope you find these verses of God’s word to be of some help to your friend.
Your brother in Christ,
Mike
