Is, Was and Will Be – The Unknown Character of Christ and His Word

The Book of Life 2005

Hi K____,

It is such a thrill to realize that there are those out there who like you are being given “eyes to see, and ears to hear.” I receive letters like yours at an increasing rate. It is only natural to become addicted to Truth once you see through the lies. I had a man at my home this past weekend, who told me the exact same story you are telling me. I have just sent off an e- mail to a man who said the exact same thing. As I told him; It is the same story every time. Yet is is a different story every time. I never tire of hearing this story. It is the story of God’s elect. It is the story of those who have “come out of her my people.” I love to hear that story. I love to hear it in all of its variations. Truly we do “receive onehundredfold in this life, with persecutions.” But even the persecutions are a cause for rejoicing.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I too, thank God for you. I hope some day to meet you at one of our conferences.

You ask right up front about the “books… and another book… which is the book of life.” Here are the verses you ask about:

Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The phrase, ‘the book of life’ appears eight times in the Bible.

Php 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Rev 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Rev 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [ the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The ‘book of life’ is “the book of the life of the lamb…” (Rev 13:8), and “the Lamb’s book of life” (Rev 21:27). The book which was meant to show us “the book of the life of the lamb is called “the book of the Unveiling ofJesus Christ,” better known as the Book of Revelation. It should now be clear why we are told at the beginning of this book, “Keep those things which are written therein.” If we have not “kept the things which are written therein,” then we are obviously “not written in the book of life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” We are judged, as you supposed, against “the book of the life of the Lamb.” We are all “judged according to our works.” If any are not “in Christ,” then they do not measure up to “the book of the life of the Lamb…” We must never add to or take from “the book of the life of the Lamb.” This book which opens with the admonition to “Keep the things which are written therein…”

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [ is] at hand.

… ends with the same admonition:

Rev 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

But then to clarify what we are to keep we are given this stern warning:

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

I am quick to point out that Peter reminds us that “no prophecy of scripture [ including the “sayings of the prophecy of this book” of Revelation] is of any private [ its own] interpretation.” God’s Word, like its author, “is not divided” (1Co 1:13).

I ask all my readers; what is “your part in the things which are written in this book?” If you know the answer to this question, your chances of being in “the book of the life of the lamb” are greatly enhanced. Of course I say this only as a way of speaking. The Truth is that our salvation either now, or in the lake of fire, has nothing to do with ‘chance.’ “He works all things after the counsel of His own will” (Eph. 1:11). The answer to the question, ‘What is your part in the sayings of the prophecy of this book?’ is, ‘Our part in the sayings of the prophecy of this book is, all the sayings of the prophecy of this book.’

You ask:

The answer to this question is an emphatic, Yes! As hard as it is for most to understand, Christ and His word cannot be separated:

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth [ gives life]; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Christ is the Word Of God, from Genesis to the unveiling of Jesus Christ.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Joh 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

I hope this sheds some light on what is the difference between the ‘books’ of Rev 20:12 and the ‘Book Of Life’ of Rev 20:15. Our life’s ‘book’ will be judged by His life’s ‘book.’ We must be “In Christ” in order to be “in the book of life.” Otherwise our “Names will be blotted out of the book of life.” Christ is “the book of life.”

You ask:

Yes, your search probably was too specific. There is but one burning bush in scripture. But there many references to things which are not affected by fire. Along with Mose’s ‘burning bush,’ there are also the three Hebrew children who lost not one hair of their heads to the fire, even though it was so hot that it consumed those who had cast them into that purifying flame. Christ Himself is said to have feet that are “as brass as it buns in a furnace.” Here now is the meaning of all things which are capable of “living in the devouring flame:”

Isa 33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?
Isa 33:15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;

That word ‘dwell’ means ‘to take up permanent residence.” This verse is nothing less that the revelation of the composition of the ‘lake of fire.” What makes this lake so fiery is it inhabitants. The ‘lake of fire is nothing less than God’s elect! It is nothing less than those who will “judge this world…”

While it is true that it is impossible to please God without faith, the fire of the burning bush was symbolic of those things which can enter the fire and come through that fire unscathed. As with virtually everything in the word of God, it typified Christ and all who are “in Him.”

Next you ask:

… to which I am compelled to quote “let your moderation be made known in all things.” Nevertheless, what you are experiencing is just as understandable as eating when you are hungry. It is just that you have been starved for so long that you are trying to make up for lost meals. You will come back down to earth at the appointed time.

Finally, yes, I too, do end up staying up all night just being in the word of God at times. Tonight apparently is one of those nights.

Thank you for your concern and for your prayers.

Mike
