Is, Was and Will Be – The Unknown Character of Christ and His Word

The Da Vinci Code

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi J____,

Thank you for your questions. There is absolutely nothing either historical or Biblical about the Da Vinci Code.
The scriptures tell us of Christ attending a wedding where He turned water into wine. Why would they not tell us of Christ’s own wedding if there were such a thing? Christ did tell us this:

Mat 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air [ have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

While on the cross Christ, told the apostle John to take care of his mother. Would He not have been equally concerned for His wife?

Joh 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
Joh 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
Joh 19:27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own [ home].

Here we are told that there were three Marys at the cross. One of those Marys was Mary Magdalene. Is she not the Mary who the Da Vinci Code asserts was Christ’s wife? I haven’t bothered to read the book. I simply don’t have the time, but it is obvious that Christ was not trying to provide for Mary Magdalene as His wife. The scripture make it clear that a married couple are to put each other’s needs ahead of the needs of fathers or mothers:

Mat 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

I hope this give you some information that is helpful.
The Revelation Commentary, which took over three years to complete, is now on the site in audio and written forms. It will be much more of a reflection of the admonition of chapter one verse three:

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [ is] at hand.

If you are looking for eschatology you are going to be very disappointed. But if you understand that “the time is at hand [ to] keep the sayings of the prophecy of this book” and that this has been true for the past two thousand years, then you will know and understand what it meant by the things which must shortly come to pass in the revealing of Jesus Christ in the lives of his elect for the past two millennia:

Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
