Is, Was and Will Be – The Unknown Character of Christ and His Word

The Horseman Of Revelation

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi J____,
I am very pleased that that letter was in some way edifying for you.
Thank you also for your question. You ask if the horseman of Rev 19 could be the overcomers of Rev 2 and 3?

As I pointed out before, inasmuch as we are “in Christ” (Col 1:27) and are sitting with Him in His Father’s throne, the answer is, yes. If we can sit with Christ in His Father’s throne, why can’t we also sit with Him on a white horse? So in the sense that “where I am there you may be also”, Christ being on a white horse is a symbol of us sitting on white horses, having “a name written that no MAN knows, but only the person with that name”.
But the one thing we want to be very careful to never forget, is that just as Christ’s Father gave everything He has to Christ, “except the power of the throne”, so too, Christ has given to us everything His Father has given to Him, except to be the head of the body.
So while we can point to the scriptures which demonstrate that we too, were slain from the foundation of the world, and we too, are the light of the world… one bread, the bread of life… saviors… etc. there is one thing we can never claim that Christ can claim, and that is that “in all things He has the preeminence”. We never want to attempt to take that preeminence away from Him. He alone is “the Word” which was with God the Father from the beginning. He, Christ, is our Creator, and He alone is the first of the firstfruits.
All of this is so because “It pleased the Father that in him should all the fullness of the Godhead dwell… that in all things He should have the preeminence”.
Now let’s look at the verses surrounding Rev 9:12 and see if this is not demonstrated here in this chapter. Let’s look to see if we are not right there with Christ, with all of His qualities, as having everything He has been given, yet giving Him “the preeminence in all things”. Notice how applicable this principle is to what is revealed here in this 19th chapter of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Rev 19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Rev 19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Rev 19:10  And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Rev 19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Rev 19:12  His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Rev 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Rev 19:14  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Rev 19:15  And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Rev 19:16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

You and I are many things in Christ. We are His bride, His body and His Christ. But we are not “King of kings and Lord of lords” in the sense that we are given preeminence above Christ.
“Our fellowservants and brothers, who have the testimony of Jesus Christ” of verse 10, are the “armies in heaven dressed in white linen robes” of verse 14, as well as “His bride” in verse 7. John, who is a symbol of us, is told not to worship those who are a type of Himself, whereas Christ never forbade anyone from worshipping Himself.

Mat 8:2  And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Mat 8:3  And Jesus put forth [ his] hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Mat 9:18  While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
Mat 9:19  And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
Mat 14:33  Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

So the answer to your question is that we are right here in Rev 19, with Christ, dressed in white linen just like Christ, sitting on white horses just like Christ, having a new name just like Christ, but you and I are not leading the armies of heaven as Christ is. You and I are His bride, and we are the armies which are in heaven being led by our head at the head of the armies of God, “that in all things He might have the preeminence”.

Col 1:15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

I have gone to great lengths in my writings to point out that Christ considers us to be “His body”. He told Saul of Tarsus that those who Saul persecuted were “Jesus of Nazareth”.

Act 22:8  And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

I have pointed out that Christ tells us that He was sent by His Father, and then He tells us that “As My Father has sent me, even so send I you”.

Joh 20:21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [ be] unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

“As My Father hath sent me, even so send I you”? What did Christ’s Father send Him to accomplish? Whatever that was is what we have been sent to accomplish. Here is what Christ was commissioned to do, and here is what we are therefore sent to do.

Joh 4:42  And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard [ him] ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
Oba 1:21  And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.

Christ calls Himself the light of the world and then turns right around and tells us that we are the light of the world.

Joh 8:12  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Mat 5:14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Christ tells us He is the bread of life, and then inspires Paul to tell us that we are all “one bread”.

Joh 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
1Co 10:17  For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

Christ is called the firstfruits unto God, and we are also called firstfruits.

1Co 15:23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
Rom 8:23  And not only [ they], but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, [ to wit], the redemption of our body
Rev 14:4  These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

Finally, Jesus is called the Christ, and we are called His Christ, the Christ of Christ.

Mat 1:17  So all the generations from Abraham unto David are fourteen generations; and from David unto the carrying away to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon unto the Christ fourteen generations.
Act 4:26  The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
Rev 11:15  And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Rev 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

I hope this helps you to see that we are Christ’s Christ, that we are like Him in every way enumerated in the scriptures. But in these verses here in Rev 19, Christ as our head is the head of the armies in heaven. He and His armies are presented to us here together, for the very purpose of making us realize that “in all things He might have the preeminence”. It is of utmost importance that we realize who we are in Christ, and that we realize that we are the Christ of Christ, and that “as He is so are we in this world”, and that He is heading up all things in the Christ of Christ.

Eph 1:9 making known to us the secret of His will (in accord with His delight, which He purposed in Him)
Eph 1:10 to have an administration of the complement of the eras, to head up all in the Christ – both that in the heavens and that on the earth
Eph 1:11 in Him in Whom our lot was cast also, being designated beforehand according to the purpose of the One Who is operating all in accord with the counsel of His will, (CLV)

But it is of equal importance that we never fail to give our Lord the preeminence He is given in the scriptures. That man on that horse is specifically designated at the the head of the armies in heaven. He is “the Word of God” and we are “the armies in heaven, dressed in white linen, pure and white… which is the righteousness of the saints”. As those “armies of God” we have that “word of God” living within us and coming out of our mouths, as a fire that destroys all who would harm us in the righteousness of the saints”.

Col 1:26  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27  To whom God would make known what [ is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Eph 1:9 making known to us the secret of His will (in accord with His delight, which He purposed in Him)”
Eph 1:10 to have an administration of the complement of the eras, to head up all in the Christ – both that in the heavens and that on the earth”
Eph 1:11 in Him in Whom our lot was cast also, being designated beforehand according to the purpose of the One Who is operating all in accord with the counsel of His will,

So we are just like Christ in this world, but let us always acknowledge that we are “in Him” and never give the Adversary the pleasure of being able to say that we ever failed to acknowledge His preeminence in all things.

1Jn 4:17  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
Col 1:19  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Your brother in “the Christ”,
Mike
